AMS-IX NEWS
AMS-IX
08 December 2025
We have decided it is time to take the next step in our global connectivity strategy by shifting our focus from the USA to other markets. After careful consideration we, together with our partner HGC, have decided to discontinue our operations in the United States of America per 5 March 2026, closing our Points-of-Presence in Chicago and Bay Area. AMS-IX is committed to contributing to a better Internet. After a review of our operations and considering our impact on the market, we have decided to put our focus on areas where we believe we can make a bigger contribution.
“We entered the USA in 2013 because there was a strong-voiced need for the European Internet Exchange model, to fuel an open and neutral Internet. We can look back on our U.S. story with pride for the part we played in introducing this model there. Now it is time to review our operations, and we believe our efforts are better served elsewhere. We will look forward with excitement to the value we can bring to other parts of the world.”
The decommissioning of our operations in Chicago and the Bay Area follows our strategy to drive global connectivity and innovation. AMS-IX currently operates 15 Internet Exchanges in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Latin America, in a bid to further strengthen the global internet. Furthermore, we will continue to focus on growth through innovation and launch several new value-added services starting with Accurate Time Services early 2026.
We remain committed to ensuring that the peering needs of our customers stay fully supported. To enable a smooth continuation of services, existing customers can transition their peering activities to our trusted partner Megaport. Together with Megaport, we will make sure this process is seamless and hassle-free.
We are thankful to all partners and customers who have been part of our U.S. journey. We look forward to continuing our collaboration — working side by side to build a stronger Internet and better societies around the world.
