On Sunday 18th of February, AMS-IX has reached a new Internet traffic peak of 12 Tbit per second.

On Sunday, February 18th, around 19:30 CET, AMS-IX recorded an unprecedented traffic peak of 12 Terabit per second (Tbps). This remarkable achievement comes during the company's 30th-anniversary celebrations, highlighting its enduring significance in the digital landscape.

The internet plays a significant role in everyone’s life these days. Our world is getting more digitalised every day and we see this reflected in the amount of traffic which is exchanged over our platform. The 12 Tbps were clocked on Sunday evening February 18 at 19:30. This is typically the time when people spend time indoors using internet services especially during winter.

The new traffic peak is foremost a result of the growth of the platform in Amsterdam. Many networks upgraded their port capacity over the last months to facilitate the exchange of larger traffic volumes. Furthermore, AMS-IX added the first 400G customer ports in the peering platform to satisfy the ever-growing demand for port capacity. Last year there was an increase on the platform of 15% of 100G ports and 12% increase of 10G ports.

“Internet traffic continues to grow and achieving this milestone shortly after the celebration of our 30th anniversary makes me very proud. I’d like to thank all the connected members and customers for their trust in our services.” - Peter van Burgel, CEO of AMS-IX
