AMS-IX
AMS-IX and Sify have been operating a carrier-neutral, open Internet Exchange in India. First known as AMS-IX India the exchange was rebranded to AMS-IX Mumbai as India saw the number of AMS-IX exchanges in the country grow.
Now, six years after its inauguration, it is time to shed some light on the pioneer of AMS-IX internet exchanges in India: AMS-IX Mumbai. The flagship exchange in Mumbai, India now services over 80 connected networks, adding up to a rise of 67% in connected ASNs and 77% increase in the number of active ports in the past five years.
With a 806 million active internet users in January 2025 (source: Digital 2025: India — DataReportal – Global Digital Insights), with a growth of 6.5% in internet users in 2024 according to Kepios (Kepios), showing a vast opportunity for growth for the connected community in the next couple of years.
In total, AMS-IX Mumbai now offers a total capacity of 1Tbps. With a current peak traffic of 127 Gbps, the exchange is securing enough capacity to accommodate the potential growth of the AMS-IX connected networks’ needs in India in the near future.
