Internet Peering

The Internet Peering VLAN or ISP Unicast VLAN is the most widely used exchange service. It is the common service on which the traditional Internet Exchange is based and where public peering is done. The service offers access to the multitude of networks connected to the AMS-IX platform with only one connection - making it very cost-efficient. Public peering is done by ISPs, carriers, content providers and the like to decrease network costs, improve performance and increase redundancy.

The Internet Peering VLAN is an Ethernet based Unicast service, enabled to support both IPv4 and IPv6 natively. The service offers interface speeds of 1 Gigabit per second Ethernet (GE), 10 or 100 Gigabit per second Ethernet (10GE, 100GE) or multitudes of these speeds in aggregated set-up. The peering VLAN is monitored 24x7 by our NOC. All customers can view their overal live traffic and specific peering traffic (sFlow) on their dedicated my.ams-ix portal. The service details are:


Ports available

  • 1 Gbit/s “GE” (1000BaseSX, 1000BaseLX, 1000BaseLH)
  • 10 Gbit/s “10GE” (10000BaseLR, 10000BaseER)
  • 100Gbit/s "100GE" (100GE-LR4, 100GE-10x10)
  • Link aggregation of the above

When connecting through one of the AMS-IX partners or resellers also lower port capacity is available (from 100 Mbps).


Features

  • Provisioning of non-blocking GE, 10 or 100 GE ports. In case of 10 and 100GE in fact 2 redundant ports on separate access switches are provided. The member/customer network actually connects to a photonic switch which provides one point of access to both ports.

  • sFlow traffic analysis reporting per customer on IP and AS level

IP details

  • One IPv4 address (1 per port) and/or IPv6 out of the prefix that is in use on the AMS-IX infrastructure.
  • PTR RR record in primary DNS for the in-addr.arpa mapping of the AMS-IX IPv4 prefix.
  • PTR RR record(s) in primary DNS for the .ip6.arpa mapping of the AMS-IX IPv6 prefix.


Service Level & Responsibilities:

  • AMS-IX delivers a service from the port to the patch panel.
  • AMS-IX is responsible for correct functioning of AMS-IX infrastructure between its switches.
  • The customer is responsible for its peering and correct functioning of its own network.
  • The customer is responsible for the necessary cabling between their router and the AMS-IX switch panel at the colocation.
  • The AMS-IX Network Operations Centre (NOC) actively monitors the AMS-IX infrastructure 24x7.
