Available services at AMS-IX
Connections are offered to the AMS-IX switches via:
- 100 Mbit/s “FastEthernet” (100BaseTX)
- 1 Gbit/s “GE” (1000BaseSX, 1000BaseLX, 1000BaseLH)
- 10 Gbit/s “10GE” (10000BaseLR, 10000BaseER)
AMS-IX offered new 10BaseT ports on all VLAN's on the platform until 01 January 2007. After this date, the AMS-IX team ceased to do so. AMS-IX will continue to fully support the current connected 10BaseT ports on all VLAN's, for as long as we are required to.
Ports are configured in one of the following VLANs:
- ISP (Internet) VLAN, Unicast, either using IPv4, IPv6 or both.
- Multicast (MC) VLAN.
- A Private VLAN to set up a Private Interconnect (PI) with another member.
- Closed User Group: a private VLAN reserved for a ‘Closed User Group’ (CUG) with three or more members.
Q-tagging
AMS-IX also offers the possibility to enable your connection in multiple VLANs. For this we offer an optional Q-tagged solution for an additional monthly fee.
Link Aggregation
Bundling multiple parallel links between a pair of devices forming a single high-performance channel is available for Gigabit and 10Gigabit Ethernet connections through link aggregation.
Link aggregation is also known as Trunking (Foundry), EtherChannel (Cisco) or LACP / 802.3ad (IEEE).
