Deployment of 100Gbps Ethernet Interconnection from Amsterdam to Geneva by AMS-IX, CERN and SURFnet

The ongoing testing of Ultra Long-haul 100 Gbps deployment these past weeks, between Amsterdam and Geneva, has included AMS-IX 100GE platform and the use of commercial Ethernet equipment for the Interconnection of IP networks.

In the beautiful and historic setting of the Rode Hoed in Amsterdam and in parallel joint efforts to bring awareness of World IPv6 day, The Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) launched 3 new unique services in preparation to the growth and developments of the Internet Industry at an event properly named MORE IP. These new services were:

Elisa Jasinska, one of the AMS-IX NOC engineers, gave a lecture at the Polytechnic University of Amsterdam (Hogeschool van Amsterdam) about Internet Exchanges and Ethernet engineering.

Complete migration to single MPLS/VPLS platform finished

After the migration of the previous active/passive Ethernet platforms to two active/passive MPLS/VPLS topologies in earlier maintenance windows, the AMS-IX NOC has now migrated these two halves into one single active/active MPLS/VPLS topology with 4 core-switches in parallel. The 10GE member connections are now distributed over all PE's in the newly created platform. More information on the platform can be found under Infrastructure.

AMS-IX moves to MPLS/VPLS

During the night the AMS-IX NOC moved the second half of the peering platform to an MPLS/VPLS set-up.
