AMS-IX en True test 20 Gbit/s peering connection

Back to Archives

20 June 2005

Over the past weeks, the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) and colocation provider True successfully completed tests with a bundled 20 Gbit/s connection.

AMS-IX has been offering 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections to its members since 15 October 2004. Up till now, higher bandwidth connections were not available to members yet.

The tests were conducted to evaluate the feasibility of speeds over 10 Gbit/s by bundling multiple 10 Gbit/s links into one logical link (AMS-IX prefers the term “link aggregation”). Aggregated 10 Gbit/s links have been in use inside AMS-IX's and various other exchanges' backbone infrastructures for some time now, but nowhere before has this been used in customer connections.
