Contacting and Accessing Co-locations
Why do you need a co-location?
The purpose of the co-location is to provide a controlled environment for you to house and connect your router to the AMS-IX Switches. You must have an agreement with your chosen co-location before you can physically connect to an AMS-IX switch. The co-locations themselves are independent of AMS-IX and therefore the issues of locating your equipment on their sites needs to be directed towards the co-locations directly. In striving to become more robust, AMS-IX decided to expand to two extra locations. This costly exercise has been fully paid for by the 2 new commercial locations of choice: TeleCity and Global Switch. Thanks to their sponsoring of dark fibers and switches AMS-IX has been able to maintain the same low level of connection costs on our switching platform.
Which co-location is for you?
Please consider all five co-locations before you choose where you want us to enable a port for you. Remember that you must close a contract with the co-location of your choice before we will enable your port at their facility. This rule always applies, even if your equipment is physically located at another location and a third party is providing you with connection services to the housing locations, unless this third party is a AMS-IX Partner and arranges your colocation for you.
Note: The cabling between the AMS-IX switch and your router is the responsibility of the co-location that you choose, thus an agreement will need to be made as to how this cabling will be supplied.
What do the co-locations need to know before you can move in?
The co-locations will want details on how much equipment you want stored at their site and the level of physical security you would like your equipment to have. The co-location will also be interested in the power that your routers are running at (this is generally 8amps but can differ), what type of physical connection you are planning with AMS-IX and whether or not you are planning private peering with other members.
