Co-locations

Choosing, contacting and accessing a co-location

The AMS-IX infrastructure is housed in several datacenters around Amsterdam in secure and controlled environments.  At these datacenters, customers can connect to the infrastructure locally by a cross-connect between their equipment and the AMS-IX patch panel. AMS-IX also allows for remote connection through the carriers and transport providers offering services at these sites.

The co-locations themselves are independent of AMS-IX and therefore any issues regarding the housing of equipment at these sites needs to be directed towards the co-locations directly. Note that you must have an agreement with your chosen co-location before you can connect to the AMS-IX network.

In case you are connecting remotely (long-distance fiber or a remote layer 2 connection), you are still responsible for ordering the local cross-connect from the transport provider's termination point to our patch panel on site (although this can usually be arranged through your transport provider). Please make sure that the co-location provider is aware you are connecting to us at their site, as we check with them if they know you.

Which co-location is right for you?

Please consider all co-locations before you choose where you want us to provision a connection for you. AMS-IX offers identical services at all sites, however the locations differ in their datacenter service offerings and service levels, so choose the one that best fits your needs. Use the links below to find out about their services, pricing and availability and contact them in case you need more information.

Datacenter Standard and certificate

During 2009 AMS-IX developed a colocation/datacenter standard due to some issues encountered in 2008 and ambiguity about what standards were to comply with. The standard defines the minimum acceptable levels, of technical implementation, resilience of operation and business continuity management for data-centers providing services to the Amsterdam Internet Exchange.

In 2010 it is the aim that all of the AMS-IX locations will be tested against these standards. Currently Vancis (SARA's subsidiary), NIKHEF, Equinix, Interxion and Telecity were audited against the standard. Where Equinix, Interxion and Telecity complied with the standards, at both SARA/Vancis and NIKHEF a number of issues were found. Both locations aim to comply with the standard in 2010. The certificate sign signifies the fact that a centre complies with the standard.

Other Datacenters

Of course AMS-IX is made available in many other datacenters throughout the Netherlands, Europe and even Worldwide as we allow remote connection to the exchange. We have members that have their equipment in the Sillicon Valley in the US for instance and peer remotely. Under our AMS-IX Partner program parties even resell AMS-IX ports, offering a full remote experience with a local contact. Many of the AMS-IX members offer attractive packages for parties wanting to join AMS-IX.
