Caribbean Internet Exchange
The Caribbean Internet Exchange (CAR-IX) is a neutral and independent not-for-profit Internet exchange modelled after the Amsterdam Internet Exchange. In 2008, together with the Bureau Telecommunications and Post of the Dutch Antilles and with the firm support of the current minister, AMS-IX exported its 'formula' to Curacao and helped founding CAR-IX. It was offcially launched in March 2009.
AMS-IX has been responsible for the design of the CAR-IX technical exchange platform and the AMS-IX engineering team is currently responsible for operating the platform helped by local remote smart hands. The CAR-IX governance structure is an exact copy of the one in use by AMS-IX.
The corporation is currently run by Mr. Nico Scheper who takes care of member relations, financial administration, manages external relations with co-locations, suppliers, vendors, local public and interested parties in general. The local operations can be contacted by email through info (at) car-ix dot net.
The goal is for CAR-IX to become self-supporting within a couple of years allowing AMS-IX top retreat from the project.
