The Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) Association members have elected three new Executive board members during their General Assembly held in Amsterdam on Wednesday 24th of November.
Alex Bik, CTO at BIT a business ISP in the Netherlands, Arif Polat IP Interconnection manager from Turk Telekom and Remco Frijling, Director Sales Engineering European Markets from Level3 Communications, will be joining standing board members Christian Kaufmann from Akamai Technologies and Reinart Wellinkvoorde from Vodafone.
Job Witteman, CEO of the AMS-IX company, owned by the AMS-IX Association, explains: “The new board members are all exceptional professionals that make up a very complimentary board: Alex Bik, is a well respected technical mind in the Dutch ISP community with a pragmatic understanding for business”, Job Witteman adds “The senior management skills and industry experience of Remco Frijling as well as the cultural, market and telecommunication background that Arif Polat offers, will provide the AMS-IX board the solid foundation to make sound strategic decisions about the development of our Exchange and the IP Interconnection market in Amsterdam”
Outgoing Chairman Wilfried Dudink: "For me it has been a challenging and great experience being part of the AMS-IX board, I believe the new members of the board will be a positive contribution to its future." Willem Malherbe from Vodafone and Didier Soucheyre from Neo Telecoms in France are both stepping down to give way for the new board members.
Christian Kaufmann, who was re-elected last week for a second term and subsequently newly elected as chairman of the AMS-IX board adds: “I am more than happy to serve the board and its members as the new chairman. Arif Polat, Alex Blik and Remco Frijling reflect the perfect addition of diversity and experience represented by the AMS-IX board.”
The AMS-IX Board will take on the position of reflecting the views of the Association members, as well as maintaining the business continuity and supervisory tasks with regards to the AMS-IX Company.
Job Witteman, highlights: “The variety and combined perspective of our newly elected board is an actual reflection of the growing diversity of our members and the international direction that AMS-IX has seen in previous years." Today, almost 400 IP networks, from all over the globe, are connected to AMS-IX to exchange more than 1 Terabit of Traffic per second.
